Word-processing errors occurred in author drafts of the manuscript, which resulted in errors in the final publication. The authors regret these errors.

On page 255 in the section "Chondrocytes," the sentence that reads "Locally produced peptide growth factors play important autocrine and paracrine roles in normal growth plate physiology, including bone proteoglycan 2, which is involved in chondrocyte growth and differentiation (Leach and Twal, 1994)." should read "Locally produced peptide growth factors play important autocrine and paracrine roles in normal growth plate physiology (Leach and Twal, 1994) including bone proteoglycan 2, which is involved in chondrocyte growth and differentiation (Barry et al., 2001)."

In Table 6, column 5, the positional candidate gene listed as "fibroblast growth factor 8" should be "fibroblast growth factor 9."

The following citation should be added to the "References" section:
